ROUTN uses AI to describe what is visible in a photograph and to answer questions about your own routine. This page explains, plainly, what that does and does not mean.

ROUTN uses AI

Skin check-ins, product recognition, hair photo comparison and the Coach all involve an AI model. Model calls happen on our servers, never directly from your phone, and each feature sends only the specific data it needs.

AI can be wrong

Language and vision models make mistakes. They can misread a label, misjudge lighting, or describe something that is not there. ROUTN constrains this in concrete ways — a fixed set of neutral observations, a schema the model must satisfy before ROUTN will store anything, and a rule that anything it cannot judge is reported as “unable to assess” rather than guessed. That reduces the risk; it does not eliminate it.

Photo quality changes everything

Lighting, distance, angle, camera, hair styling and how recently you washed your hair all change how a photo looks. Two photos taken a fortnight apart can differ for reasons that have nothing to do with your skin or hair. ROUTN checks for this and tells you when a comparison is limited — that message is worth reading when it appears.

ROUTN does not diagnose

ROUTN is a personal-care and routine-tracking service. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It will not tell you whether you have a skin or scalp condition, whether you are losing hair, or what will happen in future.

It does not replace a dermatologist, GP, pharmacist or any other qualified professional, and you should not make a medical decision based on what ROUTN shows you.

When to speak to someone

Please see a qualified healthcare professional about anything persistent, sudden, or simply worrying you — including hair coming out in patches or clumps, a rash that is spreading, pain, bleeding, a mole or mark that is changing, or a reaction to a product.

If the Coach recognises that you are describing something like this, it will say so and point you towards a professional rather than speculating about a cause.

Product information may need checking

Product names and ingredient lists read from a photograph can be wrong or incomplete. ROUTN asks you to confirm every product it thinks it has recognised, and marks an ingredient list as unconfirmed unless it came from a trustworthy source or you checked it yourself. Always check the actual packaging for anything that matters to you, such as an allergy.

This page is not a loophole

A notice like this does not license marketing that says otherwise. ROUTN’s advertising, App Store listing, website and in-app copy are all held to the same vocabulary, governed by a single approved-claims document that our own tests check against.
